Just when we were getting used to the idea of a self-driving car, it looks like we should be setting our sights a little higher. Terrafugia is ready to make the flying car a reality with their TF-X flying car concept. The TF-X is a flying plug-in hybrid that will have the ability to take off and land vertically.

The concept is designed to fit four passengers, reach speeds of up to 200 mph, and should have a nonstop flight range of at least 500 miles. Two electric motors work with a 300bhp gas engine to propel the vehicle. Terrafugia admits that there will be a little bit of a learning curve, but drivers should get the hang of flying a TF-X after about five hours of training.

The Terrafugia’s wings can expand with the push of a button and a ducted fan will offer thrust for vertical take off. Although the company is trying to put science fiction dreams to reality, it looks like it will take another 8 to 12 years to complete the TF-X’s development.
