Last year Airbus and Aerion Corporation joined forces to develop a supersonic private jet. The AS2 jet project is now in development and available for pre-order for $120 million.
The new jet is equipped with laminar-flow technology to help reduce aerodynamic drag over the wings by around 80 percent. This allows the three-engine plane to achieve efficient, long-range flights. Airbus’ new supersonic jets reduce flight time dramatically—we’re talking shaving 6.5 hours off a flight between Singapore and San Francisco.
The collaborative AS2 is crafted from carbon fiber and titanium alloy. With a 30-foot-long cabin and the capacity to seat 11 passengers, the new jet also has an expected maximum range of 5,400 miles. Aerial and Airbus’ new flying machine can even reach a top speed of Mach 1.5.
The sleek red-and-white jet is sure to make waves with superfast speeds and genius engineering. Expect to see the Aerion AS2 in airspace near you by 2021.
