Anyone with kids knows car seats can be a complete nightmare. Volvo’s new concept design is hoping to make this aspect of parenting a little easier. The automotive company’s design replaces the front passenger seat with a spot for a baby car seat. The Excellence Child Seat Concept plays off the design of its Lounge Console where the passenger seat is replaced by a multi-purpose luxury footrest for the rear-seat passenger.

Volvo maintains that the current system of placing child safety seats in the back facing forward is not safe. The company believes that children face a greater risk of car accident-related injuries when facing forward compared to backward-facing front-seat placements. With the concern that backseat-placed car seats are dangerous due to an infant’s lack of neck strength, their new Excellence concept has the safety seat in the front passenger spot facing backward.

Because the passenger seat isn’t in the way, anyone in the backseat can directly face the baby, making child care easier. The new concept also allows for child seat rotation to allow for easier loading and unloading. Volvo also added storage space under the seat for baby’s things. Even though it’s still a concept, with easier child loading and upgraded safety, parents are sure to be getting in line for the kid-friendly vehicle.
