Chinese drivers are loving the Mercedes-Benz Maybach. The sub-brand has recently sold more in China per month than it used to sell worldwide in a year. With around 500 of the cars sold each month to Chinese buyers, the uber-luxury variant of the already-luxurious Mercedes S-Class has become a countrywide favorite. The vehicle, which now starts a $230,000 in China, has also been completely revitalized.
The Maybach was originally marketed as an alternative to buyers interested in vehicles like Rolls-Royce or Bentley. Because of the brand’s newfound popularity in China, Mercedes is on track to catch up with luxury brands like BMW. Mercedes’ vehicle diversification from the Maybach to SUVs has also helped to boost sales.
Daimler, the company that owns Mercedes-Benz, hopes to overtake Audi and BMW in global sales. It looks like China’s penchant for luxury vehicles, and the Maybach specifically, will certainly help in that endeavor.
