Daimler, who owns Mercedes-Benz, is taking on Tesla with the introduction of their own storage batteries. Developed for industrial and personal use, the Mercedes-Benz-branded batteries are ideal for the earth-conscious consumer. While the battery’s look doesn’t matter when it comes to its function, it does have the classic sleek aesthetic expected of the Mercedes brand.

Originally designed for electric cars, the new storage plants use solar grids for power. The batteries can store an energy content of 2.5 kWh each. They can be combined into an energy storage plant of eight units for a total capacity of 20 kWh. This adds up to plenty of power for the home.

The new batteries are presumably in response to Tesla who also has its own line of storage batteries. Regardless of who sells more batteries, luxury companies moving into the energy business means lower prices and more options for consumers.
