There’s a retro revival happening in the hi-fi industry, and the newest reboot comes in the form of the McIntosh MC75 amplifier and C22 preamplifier.
The MC75 is a completely reimagined mono amplifier available for $3,750. Delivering 75 watts to 2, 4, or 8 ohm loudspeakers, it can be used as a single amplifier for regular mono recordings or used with an additional MC75 for separate-channel stereo amplification. This model has a ’70s style partial glass front panel and throwback control knobs and switches.
The C22 preamplifier is a classic in audio machinery. With a vintage 1960s look, it comes with modern circuitry, balanced inputs/outputs, and a remote control. Available for $6,000, the new model has both moving-magnet and moving-coil phono inputs to work with the listener’s selection of turntable and cartridge.
