After five generations with the same Australian family, one of the world’s largest private land holdings is for sale. Collected over 100 years ago by Sir Sidney Kidman, the collection of ten large outback properties will go to one of 30 bidders in the next few months. Combined, the properties make up over 27 million acres, which is about the size of Indiana (the Hoosier state is about 23 million acres). The property is also home to the biggest cattle station on Earth, but just 150 people actually live on the land.

Sidney Kidman originally obtained the properties after developing a cattle business using exclusive cattle breeds. He continued to expand his holdings until he amassed a vast network of stations. Kidman, who ran away from home at thirteen, was knighted at the age of 64. Now, S Kidman & Co is one of Australia’s largest beef producers, delivering 1.3 percent of Australia’s boxed beef exports.

With a long history of hard work and prosperity, this large property will become a major asset to whoever secures the winning bid.
