Riding your bike to work just got a whole lot easier. Following the recent announcement of their Peer-2-Peer Car Sharing plan, Ford announced the release of MoDE:Flex, the latest in smartbikes.
The MoDE:Flex comes with a motor and battery, and like its predecessors, can fold in half to fit inside a car. With loads of high-tech features, the Flex was crafted for bike enthusiasts and techies alike. If you’re worried about showing up to work in a sweat, the Flex has a solution for you. This new model is able to communicate with your smartphone to select a “no sweat” mode, so you can get to work fast, but not so fast you break a sweat. The mode increases assistance from the electric motor based on your heart rate, effectively preventing you from sweating.
The companion app, MoDe:Link, keeps riders up-to-date with traffic, road, and weather conditions. The Watch extension is able to predict potholes and other hazards, causing the handlebars to vibrate so riders can avoid danger. The navigation system uses the same concept; when the navigation on your phone says to make a left, the left handlebar will give you a gentle shake. The handlebars will also vibrate if a car is approaching from behind.
Although the bike is part of Ford’s latest “urban mobility solution,” the MoDe:Flex is built for mountain, road, and city riding.
