Sony has created a light bulb that doubles as a wireless Bluetooth speaker.
The complications that arise when wiring a sound system throughout the home are not negligible. Sony helps remedy this problem by integrating a two-watt speaker into a lightbulb that will twist into a traditional socket. Simply use the bulbs in every room in your home and you have a speaker system that links to your smart devices via Bluetooth and streams music all over the house.
The bulb itself is LED and gives off a wide light while minimizing the shadow created by the integrated speaker. The speaker’s volume and the light’s brightness can be controlled with a one-touch NFC remote.
The bulb is already on sale in Japan for around $200. No word on when or if it will head to the U.S.
