Google’s much-talked-about self-driving car has been approved by the state of California.
The cars will top out at 25 MPH for the time being and will feature a removable steering wheel and permanent brake and gas pedals so the on-board safety driver (you) can take control of the vehicle at any time.
Google’s autonomous car will be using the same software as the Lexus RX 405H SUV test vehicle since it has put in millions of miles of autonomous driving.
Google’s goal with this run is to test the car’s driving abilities in conditions that cannot be completely simulated on a course such as traffic congestion, construction zones, and other drivers’ reaction to the car.
You will see a few prototypes of Google’s autonomous car on the road as soon as this summer.
