Porsche is paying homage to its motorsports history with the 2016 911 GT3 R.
The car features a lower center of gravity, longer body and wheelbase, and reduced weight thanks to a mix of aluminum, steel, carbon fiber, and composite materials used in body construction. The windows are crafted from polycarbonate.
The 911 GT3 R is powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six, the same found in its road-going cousin, the GT3 RS. It pumps out 500 ponies and is connected to a six-speed gearbox. The car is equipped with slotted front disc brakes clamped by six-piston aluminum calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear for precise stopping power.
The interior is designed to shield the driver with racing bucket seats designed for protection in case of a collision.
The 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 R starts at $490,000.
