University of Utah’s Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute will soon be installing sleeping pods, essentially small homes inside a box, so that students will get to live as close as possible to their workspace.
“As an entrepreneur, your ideas may come to you at 3 a.m. in the morning,” said Merdad Yzadani, design director at CannonDesign, the firm behind the project. “You want to be able to roll out of the bed, grab your partners, and develop the idea.”
The units are 7’x7’x7′ and include such necessities as a bed, closet, medicine cabinet, and bookshelf. There is a kitchen, lounge, and bathroom used as a shared space among the students.
The project is scheduled to be finished and ready for the first community in 2016.
