Scarface Mansion’s Price Chopped in Half

The mansion from the 1983 cult movie Scarface just received a hefty price cut and is currently listed for $17.9 million. The home was originally listed on the market with an asking price of $35 million.

The home is actually located in Montecito, Calif., not Miami as the movie will have you believe. It has 9,800 square feet of living space with four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and four half-baths. The most interesting room in the home is the “conversation room,” a room with an 18-foot-high dome ceiling inspired by a particular church in Rome.

The large home sits on ten acres and it is the landscaping that earned it the name El Fureidis, Arabic for “little paradise.” The home’s exterior is decorated with sculptures by Lee Lawrie, the artists who also designed the iconic Atlas in front of Rockefeller Center. The exterior also features numerous patios, gardens, and palm trees.

The mediterranean-style home was originally built in 1906 for James Waldron Gillespie, a New York banker. The home has undergone several renovations since then.

It is located in one of the wealthiest areas in California, also home to the likes of Oprah Winfrey.
