Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola seemed like a strange choice to design Glas Italia’s Iridescent Furniture Collection, considering her disdain for working with glass.
“I hate glass when you have to do furniture,” Urquiola said. “It makes me vomit. If you’re working in tableware or little items, it can be very interesting,” said Urquiola. “When you’re working in typologies like tables, bookcases, any other typologies for the house, it’s really a material that’s not for me.”
Despite her hatred for glass, she has done a wonderful job of creating the collection that was shown off at Salone del Mobile in Milan earlier this month.
The collection of glass pieces include tables and shelves that are formed with laminated glass. The unique coloration gives the collection a modern feel, while paying homage to vintage high-end furniture.
To go along with the furniture collection, Urquiola also crafted a set of mirror that have a multichromatic finish and reflect only subtle images back to the user.
