Chevrolet showed off a futuristic autonomous concept recently. It is important to note that this futuristic car is not meant to be a sign of things to come for Chevy, but is simply speculation as to where the car market may be headed in years to come.
The exterior of the car features a design inspired by the dragonfly, with its narrow body work and dual-swing doors that represent the insect’s wings. The headlights and taillights are “crystal laser,” which sound like science fiction until you remember that other car companies are already planning on putting laser light systems in their production cars.
Chevy says that the FNR will have in-wheel electric motors that are charged via a wireless charging system. How all this technology will work is not known, as it does not actually exist.
The most realistic feature of the car is its self-driving feature. Chevy says the FNR uses on-board sensors and radar tech mounted to the roof so it can assess the environment and make intelligent decision in real-time when in autonomous driving mode. Self-driving is not as sci-fi as some of the FNR’s other features.
The Chevrolet FNR will not be going into any sort of production as all the concept’s features are merely hypothetical at this point.
