Airbus recently introduced the world to the Next-Gen H160 helicopter at an industry event in Orlando, Fla.
The chopper is packing some major luxury and technology, with a fully composite air frame that keeps its weight down without sacrificing strength. The material also requires less maintenance and is more resistant to corrosion than typical air frames. A double-canted tail uses the biggest Fenestron shrouded tail rotor ever built. This helps reduce noise and vibration in the cabin and makes the chopper more aerodynamic. These two body alterations help the H160 use 20 percent less fuel than similar helicopters.
The H160 is powered by two fuel-efficient Turbomeca Arrano turboshaft engines that propel the chopper at a top speed of 185 MPH for distances of 500 miles. A total of 12 people can fit in the H160.
The Next-Gen H160 helicopter is expected to make its first flight later this year. A price has yet to be announced but those with the means to afford one of these helicopters will receive it in 2018.
