A Pebble smartwatch that sprang up on Kickstarter raised $2 million in just one hour and is up to nearly $16M as of this writing.
“We have so much gratitude for our community and the support they’ve given us, from the first Pebble Kickstarter campaign to today,” Eric Migicovsky, Pebble CEO, said.
It only took 20 minutes for the smartwatch to reach half-a-million dollars.
“At its heart, Pebble Time is an awesome watch,” the company said in a statement on its Kickstarter page. “The new color e-paper display is easy to read and always-on. Compared with display technology like LCD or OLED, power consumption is minimised, enabling Pebble Time to achieve an industry-leading battery life of up to seven days.”
The smartwatch is the follow-up to the original Pebble Watch. This watch is called the Pebble Time, and what has those funding it so excited is the promised seven-day battery life.
Instead of utilizing a battery-draining LCD or OLED screen like most smartwatches, Pebbles Time will features a color e-paper display like those found in e-readers. Also reducing the battery power needed, the watch ditches the touch screen for three buttons located next to the face of the watch.
Other features include a fitness tracker, microphone for dictation speech reconciliation, and over 1,000 other apps. The watch is also water-resistant and customizable.
