Block Wearables showed off an open platform system for smartwatches at CES 2015 that allows users to completely customize their smartwatch experience.
Using processing chip from Intel, the smartwatch users can extend battery life, use a fingerprint scanner, cameras, GPS, or transform their smartwatch into a top-of-the-line fitness tracker.
The prototypes are currently configured to be compatible with Android operating systems. The goal is to eventually allow users to simply replace the blocks in the system to add new features instead of having to buy whole new units.
The project is still in the early prototype stages, though a Kickstarter is scheduled to pop up for the project later this year. Time will tell if this product sees production.
