Microsoft’s answer to virtual reality is the HoloLens, a gadget that augments your reality as opposed to placing you in a virtual world.
Microsoft plans on launching the HoloLens in the same timeframe as the upcoming Windows 10 operating system, though no date has been specified.
Setting itself apart from Google Glass, the HoloLens is a wrap-around headset. It also does not need to connect to a PC or smartphone in order to work. It is a complete, standalone device.
The headset relies on motion and sound control for operation. It also features a sound system where objects in the virtual world project sound relative to their location, creating a realistic augmented reality.
Not a whole lot of information was made available at the unveiling of Windows 10. Expect more tech specs, production run, and pricing details to be released soon. Check out the video below to get a better idea of the HoloLens’ capabilities.
