Mercedes-Benz revealed the F 015, a self-driving luxury sedan concept, at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.
“The single most important luxury goods of the 21st century are private space and time,” Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz cars, said. “Autonomously driving cars by Mercedes-Benz shall offer exactly that. With the F 015 luxury in motion, this revolutionary concept of mobility becomes tangible for the first time.”
The car’s design focuses on privacy within a vehicle and, of course, luxury. In fact, the project’s codename was “Luxury In Motion.” The interior has four rotating chairs with Nappa leather upholstery. The inside also features aluminum mounts that allows passengers space to put their laptops and work on the go. There are also six display screen offering both entertainment and information on the self-driving vehicle.
The F 015 is powered by a similar electric engine as the one used in the 2011 F125, which was an F-cell plug-in hybrid vehicle.
“Already two years ago, with the S 500 Intelligent Drive, we showed on the historical route Bertha-Benz took in 1888 that we have the technology which makes autonomous driving reality in everyday traffic,” Zetsche said. “We have a masterplan in place to take the big leap required getting from technically feasible to commercially viable. the F 015 luxury in motion demonstrates where this may take us.”
The Mercedes-Benz F015 is still just a concept. There is currently no timetable for mass production.
