Vertu’s new titanium Aster smartphone launched recently. The phone is aimed at the luxury market and focuses on craftsmanship and fine materials, not so much the bleeding edge of technology.

“Technology will be more a merging factor and not a differentiation point,” Max Pogliani, Vertu CEO, said.

Speaking of technology, the phone features a 2.4 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 64 GB of internal storage. The screen is about 4.7 inches and it is a 1080p display. The main camera is 13 MP, while the front-facing camera is 2.1 MP.

“Vertu is not here to follow general mass market mobile trends; our technology is leading edge but it doesn’t have to be bleeding edge,” Pogliani said. “The same goes for the physical design of Vertu products. The nature of our customers and of our products mean that we have to develop what is right for them, not follow generic broader industry design themes that may be more fleeting than those of the luxury market. Many of our customers desire and appreciate compact size Vertu products that comfortably fit inside the pocket of a well-tailored suit or in an expensive clutch bag.”

The Aster is offered in various colors and skins. The base price comes wrapped in calf leather with black, blue, or pink color options. You can also purchase an upgraded phone in snake skin in black or orange. The high-end version comes wrapped in ostrich skin in brown or purple.

The phone also comes with a concierge service that offers users access to exclusive events and parties. That service is figured into the price and lasts for 18 months.

“Concierge and services continues to be of significant importance to Vertu and they are a key part of our brand DNA,” Pgliani said. “We are continually developing this aspect of our business and new partnerships with the likes of Bentley indicate the level of our vision and ambition.”

Pricing starts at 6,900 and goes all the way up to $9,700 for the top-end model.
