Dyson has built a reputation for making fans, vacuums, and other household items with a futuristic flair, so it is appropriate that the company has introduced a robotic vacuum cleaner called the Dyson 360 Eye.
“Most robotic vacuum cleaners don’t see their environment, have little suction, and don’t clean properly,” James Dyson, the inventor that founded the company, said. “They are gimmicks. Vision, combined with our high-speed digital motor and cyclone technology, is the key to achieving a high-performing robot vacuum — a genuine labor-saving device.”
The 360 Eye took 16 years and nearly $47 million to develop according to Dyson. The vacuum made its debut in Tokyo earlier this year.
The 360 Eye has Dyson’s patented cyclone technology and runs on a V2 Dyson digital motor. What sets this vacuum apart, is its ability to intelligently maneuver around a room using a 360-degree panoramic camera and infrared sensors.
The camera works by sending captured information back to the vacuum so it can analyze a room’s shape and obstacles and chart a path based on the information.
The 360 Eye is wireless and can run 20-30 minutes on a full charge. There is also an app compatible with iOS and Android that allows users to activate cleaning when away from home.
Pricing and availability details have yet to be released, though it is expected to be available in Japan by spring of next year.
