Environmentally conscious drivers have relished in the recent development of the luxury green car market. Tesla led the way, but BMW also contributed to the new sleek designs in the green car movement with their i3 and i8 models. However, many questioned just how environmentally friendly using electricity is, as generating electricity normally comes with a carbon footprint as well. EIGHT, an eco-friendly company out of Germany, may have a clever solution to this issue.
The Point. One S was recently installed at BMW Welt in Munich to show off just what it could do. The charging station is essentially a canopy tent that has a roof lined with solar panels. These panels provide the BMW i3s and i8s with power and when a car is not charging, they transfer the energy back into the power grid.
The Point. One S is not yet commercially available, but after BMW refines the concept, that might change.
