The “Winter White House,” located in Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly owned by President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie, is on the market.

“Everyone in Palm Beach considered it a teardown,” John K. Castle, an investment bank CEO and current owner, said. “They said the house was ugly and awful, beyond saving. If one of the few gas-fired heaters exploded, I wouldn’t have been surprised.”

Castle performed a two-year, $6 million renovation on the home, and it is now again fit for a president with 11 bedrooms, a tennis court, oceanfront views, and a large pool.

The house was in the Kennedy family for two generation. It was first purchased by Joseph P. Kennedy in 1933 for $120,000.

The house is currently listed for $38.5 million.
