The Panono is a panoramic camera shaped like a ball for a good reason. It is designed to be thrown.
The camera can capture 360 degrees by 360 degrees, 108-megapixel images using 36 cameras that shoot at the exact same moment. The images captured can then be viewed using the Panono app. Once the image is uploaded you can move your phone up and down and side to side to view a complete 360 degree image.
“We’re creating an entirely new panoramic-photography experience, one that can finally include people and is social…Until now, it’s been impossible to take good panoramic shots with people in them because people move in between shots and cause ghosting,” Jonas Pfeil, president and co-founder of Panono and creator of the ball camera, said. “Since all of Panono’s 36 cameras fire at once in every direction, it captures an instant in time that includes everyone—even the photographer—in a blur-free panoramic image. With the Panono, taking panoramic pictures becomes an all-inclusive, fun new social experience and a way literally to capture all the details of that moment.”
When the Panono is thrown it calculates its own acceleration and when it reaches its highest point all 36 cameras will snap a shot. The images are all wirelessly uploaded to the app where they create one image.
Potential buyers can download the free Panono app from the App Store or Android Marketplace to view images taking with the Panono. The project was formerly listed on Indiegogo where they have already met their $900,000 goal. Interested parties can check out the Panono website to purchase a unit.
