According to images shared by a BMW insider, the 2015 BMW i8 may feature a computerized smartkey that will come with a high-resolution LCD screen. BMW has supposedly created this key specifically for the i8 plug-in hybrid sports coupe.

The multifunction key displays the charge left in the car, the current range, when it was charged last and whether it’s locked. The key fob has a docking spot in the dashboard of the 2015 i8 hybrid which may serve to recharge it. BMW’s revolutionary design puts the key fob’s capabilities close to those of a smartphone app and may herald the era of a key fob war among car manufacturers.
